Personal Narrative
After graduating from Massachusetts Maritime Academy with a B.S. in Marine Transportation, and before enrolling in law school, Elizabeth sailed for five years as a deck officer aboard ocean-going tugboats and cargo ships. While working her way up the ranks, Elizabeth gained experience handling a variety of cargos and making port calls worldwide. Elizabeth’s responsibilities included preparation of incident reports, maintenance of safety systems, and organization of port and cargo logistics as well as managing the deck department. Before transitioning shoreside, Elizabeth obtained her USCG Masters license, unlimited tonnage upon oceans, and Master of Towing Vessels, upon oceans. For a brief time, Elizabeth developed course curriculums for Mid-Atlantic Maritime Academy and was an instructor for several courses, including Tankerman Person-In-Charge, Tankerman Assistant, Search and Rescue, and Cargo Handling.
Before joining Nicoll Black & Feig, Elizabeth served as a law clerk to the Honorable Douglas R. M. Nazarian on the Maryland Court of Special Appeals, Maryland’s intermediary appellate court. She also served as an intern for the Honorable Marvin J. Garbis and the Honorable A. David Copperthite at the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland.
Elizabeth is a cum laude graduate of University of Baltimore School of Law, where she served as Editor in Chief of the University of Baltimore Law Review. Additionally, Elizabeth represented institutional clients as a student attorney with the Legal Data & Design Clinic. Elizabeth’s clinic work focused on gathering and wrangling data, and then using the data for its persuasive effect in legal contexts.
