NBF attorneys and staff are operating remotely in accordance with State of Washington COVID-19 protocols. Our intent is to offer our clients undiminished legal support to the extent possible during this crisis. While we hope to be back in the office soon, we can work remotely for the indefinite future. February 19th, 2020

On February 19, 2020 the American Bar Association published the second edition of Damages Recoverable in Maritime Matters (https://www.americanbar.org/products/inv/book/393853362/).This new and expanded edition reflects changes in the law of maritime damages over the past 35 years. The chapter discussing the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act was co-authored by NBF attorney Nina Mitchell.


January 22nd, 2020

NBF hosted its annual Mardi Gras party amidst MIAS conference festivities at the Fado Restaurant. A good time was had by all. If you have not attended one of these parties, you really should consider coming to our next one. Look for your invitation next January.

On December 17, 2019, NBF attorney Chris Nicoll was a presenter in a continuing education WEBEX seminar for members of the Institutes CPCU Society. The presentation was entitled “At the Corner of Marine Insurance and Stock Throughput,” and was part of a program entitled “Understanding Stock Throughput.”


December 10th, 2019

NBF attorney Chris Nicoll addressed the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) Association on the topic of “At the Corner of Marine Insurance and Stock Throughput” on December 10, 2019.


December 6th, 2019

NBF attorney Shantrice Anderson recently won “top” prize at the NBF Annual Gift Exchange with a one-of-a-kind pair of socks displaying the image of NBF attorney Rivers Black. Wear them proudly Shantrice!!

December 1st, 2019

NBF attorneys Chris Nicoll and Shantrice Anderson recently settled on favorable terms a subrogation claim for losses paid on a property theft claim on behalf of Lloyd’s Underwriters against a Canadian trucker.


November 15th, 2019

NBF attorneys Chris Nicoll and Melinda Drogseth recently settled a serious personal injury case for a marine product manufacturer on favorable terms.

 


August 8th, 2019

On August 8, 2019, NBF attorney Nina Mitchell spoke at the American Bar Association seminar “Maritime Damages by the Bay” in San Francisco, CA. The seminar celebrates the pending publication of the reference book, Damages Recoverable in Maritime Matters (2nd Edition), which is sponsored by the ABA-TIPs Admiralty & Maritime Committee. Nina co-authored the chapter discussing the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act (“LHWCA”). At the seminar, Nina introduced the chapter and spoke about the current challenges faced by LHWCA carriers seeking to be reimbursed out of damage awards made under the Jones Act and General Maritime Law.
