May 10th, 2019

NBF attorney Chris Reilly will be representing the owner of the fishing vessel MARY B II, which is a party in interest at a Coast Guard Marine Casualty Board to be conducted in Newport, Oregon from May 13 – 17, 2019. May 9th, 2019

NBF attorney Larry Altenbrun was a speaker and presenter at the Marine Insurance Association of Seattle’s Day of Education on May 9, 2019. Larry participated in a panel presentation titled, “Shining a Light on Marine Claims: A Hypothetical Hull Casualty Roundtable” and spoke about many legal issues including Red Letter Clauses, personal injury liability, assessment of damages, punitive damages, and settlement strategies. The Day of Education is the largest marine insurance educational event held in Seattle each year, attracting attendees from around the country.


April 24th, 2019

NBF attorneys Rivers Black and Curt Feig are participating in the upcoming 2019 Newport – Ensenada International Yacht Race (see //nosa.org/). The firm sailing trophy case eagerly awaits their return.

NBF attorneys Chris Nicoll, Curt Feig, and Mindy Drogseth delivered an on site continuing education presentation to professional liability adjusters in Deerfield, Illinois, addressing medical malpractice defense in Washington, Washington’s approach to an insurer’s duty to defend, and developing issues on the collateral source rule in Washington.


March 27th, 2019

NBF attorney Larry Altenbrun published an article on LinkedIn exploring the Batterton v. Dutra case, regarding which the Supreme Court heard oral argument on March 25. That case involves the issue of whether an injured seaman is entitled to seek punitive damages based upon an claim for unseaworthiness. NBF attorneys Rivers Black, Larry Altenbrun and Chris Reilly returned from a 5-day trip to London to visit clients and colleagues in the London market. During the trip, the trio provided presentations on the topics of punitive damages, maritime personal injury law primer, the effective use of litigation experts.

NBF attorney Jeremy Jones was elected President of the Marine Insurance Association of Seattle (“MIAS”), which is the leading marine insurance professional association in the Pacific Northwest. MIAS is comprised of marine underwriters, claims professionals, surveyors, attorneys, and others who participate in the marine insurance market.
