Personal Narrative

Deniz (Tuncer) Perkowski is an associate at Nicoll Black Altenbrun & Feig where she focuses on admiralty and maritime law, first and third-party insurance coverage disputes, and insurance defense litigation. Her practice includes defending policyholders in commercial general liability disputes and representing insurers in bad faith litigation. She regularly provides coverage evaluations across a range of matters, including property, marine, and transportation policies.

Deniz advises a broad spectrum of clients including business owners, terminal operators, shipping and trucking companies, protection and indemnity (P&I) clubs and their members, recreational vessel owners, and property and general liability insurers. 

Deniz is licensed to practice in New York, California, and Türkiye. She brings an international perspective to her practice, shaped by both global experience and a deep interest in cross-border legal issues.

Prior to joining Nicoll Black Altenbrun & Feig, Deniz practiced at an international law firm where she handled insurance coverage and litigation matters for both domestic and international insurers and defended insureds in complex litigation. She also served as an associate at a boutique maritime law firm in Long Beach, advising clients on cargo claims, vessel collision and maritime personal injury disputes, multimodal transportation issues, and matters involving environmental regulations and compliance.

Deniz earned her LL.M. in Admiralty and Maritime Law from Tulane Law School in 2019. Her passion for the field stems from her love of international trade, shipping, and the complexity of maritime law.

She is an active member of the Maritime Law Association of the United State, Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA), and the Propeller Club of Los Angeles and Long Beach. Deniz is committed to building strong client relationships, finding practical solutions, and giving back to the community that shaped her career.
